Points of Interest for GPS Tracking for Fleet Tracking and Vehicle Tracking

You may have heard of points of interest (POI) from using your car’s GPS system. POIs are locations which are mapped out on your GPS or vehicle tracking system. They can be gas stations, restaurants, hospitals and hotels to name just a few. On a tracking system, POIs are often referred to as Geofences or a Geozone.
Many vehicle tracking systems use POIs, but in a slightly different way from GPSs. With a vehicle tracking system you can input your own points of interest. These may be your customer’s depots and offices, your head office and also the locations of your driver’s homes.
An alert can be sent out if a driver enters or leaves the predetermined area of the POI. These alerts can be sent via email or via sms text or an in-vehicle buzzer. A daily or weekly report of the POIs that have been visited by each driver and at what times they have been visited can be viewed via many vehicle or fleet tracking systems.
These POIs can also be imported into the tracking system via a CSV file.
